Not necessarily. The rating represents pressure resistance under defined test conditions. Real use introduces motion, changing pressure, temperature, aging gaskets, and the condition of the crown and case.

1. Why 30m Does Not Mean Diving to 30 Meters
Ratings are often shown in equivalent forms:

- 20 bar = 20 ATM ≈ 200m
The meter figure should not be read as a recreational diving depth. It is a consumer-facing expression of pressure performance under test conditions.
In daily life, arm movement, entering the water, temperature change, a crown that is not fully closed, impact damage, and old gaskets can affect sealing. Think of the rating as an indication of the intended water-use category — not a promise that every watch can be used at the printed depth.
General water-resistant watches and true diver’s watches may also be tested under different standards. A conventional 100m watch is not automatically suitable for scuba diving.

3. Why You Should Still Remove a Water-Resistant Watch in the Shower
Hot water, steam, soap, and shampoo create conditions different from a cool-water pressure test. Temperature change and cleaning products may accelerate the aging of gaskets and other components. Leather straps can also stain, smell, or crack after repeated exposure.
The safest habit is to remove your watch before a hot shower, bath, hot spring, steam room, or sauna — regardless of the rating.

Is the strap suitable?
A 100m-rated case on a leather strap may survive the water while the strap does not. Metal, rubber, and suitable fabric are more practical for repeated water exposure.
5. What to Do After Wearing a Watch in Salt Water
Salt and sand can remain between the case, bracelet, bezel, and clasp. If the manufacturer permits rinsing:
- Confirm that the crown is fully closed.
- Rinse away salt and sand with clean fresh water.
- Use a gentle flow rather than a high-pressure jet.
- Dry the watch with a soft cloth.
- Allow it to air-dry in a ventilated place.
